Piotr WcisłoNicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
Piotr WcisłoProfessor, Nicolaus Copernicus University in ToruńProf. Piotr Wcisło, DSc, PhD is an atomic physicist and a graduate of the Interdisciplinary
Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Jagiellonian University,
specializing in atomic physics. He obtained his PhD from Nicolaus Copernicus University in
Toruń, Poland, where he has been working since 2015. His research experience includes
fellowships and research visits at leading scientific institutions, including the Harvard-
Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in the United States, JILA (the Joint Institute for
Laboratory Astrophysics, jointly operated by the University of Colorado Boulder and the
National Institute of Standards and Technology), and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
He has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Stanisław Pieńkowski
Award (2015), the Polish Physical Society Award (2012), the Prime Minister’s Award for an
outstanding doctoral dissertation (2016), and the Minister of Science Award (2016 and 2017).
He has also received the START scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science, a
scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young
scientists, and an award from the National Science Centre, Poland. His research has been
supported by several National Science Centre grants, including SONATA, two OPUS
projects, PRELUDIUM BIS, and SONATA BIS, as well as the prestigious ERC Starting
Grant.
His research focuses on ultra-precise molecular spectroscopy, precision measurements of the
properties of the simplest atomic and molecular systems, and tests of fundamental laws of
physics. Prof. Wcisło also develops novel methods for searching for dark matter, including
those based on optical atomic clocks. His work aims to test quantum theory and search for
possible manifestations of physics beyond the Standard Model, potentially paving the way for
groundbreaking discoveries in the natural sciences.Read full bio →
